There is one moment every footballer cherishes for a lifetime: the very first match in the top division. For Egyed Kata, just 16 years old, that moment has now arrived. And it wasn’t just against anyone — her debut came against MTK, one of Hungary’s strongest clubs and a contender for the championship title.
Before kick-off, Kata was practically buzzing with excitement. “Every girl who starts playing football dreams of one day stepping onto an NB I pitch. That was my dream too. When coach Attila told me I’d be playing against MTK, I couldn’t wait for the opportunity. I felt curiosity, excitement, and the urge to prove myself. I was more excited than nervous.”
Backed by Szekszárd’s community
The young player says the team spirit around her gave her huge confidence in her debut. “The girls were so supportive and helpful. I felt they were behind me all the way, and that meant a lot on such a big day.”
Of course, once the whistle blew, the difference in pace at senior level quickly became clear. “Everything was faster — both in thinking and technically. I know this is where I need to improve, and that motivates me the most.”
A special moment: facing her idol
One of the highlights of the match was squaring up against her childhood idol, Fanny Vágó. “It was an incredible feeling to play against her. A few years ago I was only watching her on TV, and suddenly we were sharing the same pitch — unbelievable.”
More than just a debut
For Kata, her first appearance wasn’t only about fulfilling her own dream, but also about setting an example for younger players. Above all, she wants the love of the game to shine through whenever she plays. “I want young players to see that hard work and persistence really do pay off. I want to become the kind of player who inspires others to choose this sport.”
Her goals for the season are clear: to improve in every aspect of the game, to score her first goal, and to help Szekszárd FC secure their place in the top flight.
On the path of growth
What truly sets Egyed Kata apart is not just her talent, but her mindset. For her, every training session and every match is another chance to grow, another step forward.
Many players might feel that stepping onto an NB I pitch at 16 means they’ve “made it.” Kata sees it differently: for her, this is only the beginning. Just one milestone on an upward journey.
Remember the name: Kata Egyed — Szekszárd FC’s young talent, whose story is only just beginning, and who is sure to be seen many more times on the biggest stages of Hungarian football.
